Juan Sebastian holds a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Colombia (2018) and a master’s degree in Building Engineering from Politecnico di Milano (2021). During his master’s thesis project and subsequent research internship, he studied how dynamic energy models can be a fundamental improvement in the design of building HVAC systems, compared to the traditional stationary or semi-stationary methods still used in Italy today. Applying this expertise in energy modeling and energy efficiency in his following work experiences, he has developed technical and economic feasibility projects for the energy requalification of third sector buildings, energy audits for residential and office buildings, hospitals, assisted health care residences, while also energy models based on the Ashrae 90.1 standard for LEED certifications of sustainable buildings. By pursuing the highest possible energy savings in every project in which he is involved, he intends to contribute in this way to the decarbonization of the building sector.
Main area of activity in R2M:
Juan Sebastian works as an Energy and Sustainability Engineer for the Energy division of R2M. Analyzing the entire energy performance of buildings, he carries out dynamic energy simulations and complex building energy analysis, always with the aim of providing energy efficiency strategies in order to reduce the energy impact of buildings and thus their environmental footprint. Some of these energy models are used to fulfill the requirements of Minimum energy performance and Optimize Energy Performance for LEED certification rating system.
