Andrea Costa

Andrea Costa is a building engineer with expertise in dynamic energy simulations and Continuous Commissioning, and is one of the first ten Commissioning Authorities certified by Bureau Veritas – CEPAS. He is also a BREEAM In-Use Assessor, a WELL Performance Testing Agent, and an Envision Sustainability Professional. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in 2005 and a Master’s degree in Building Engineering in 2007, both from the Politecnico di Milano. Between 2006 and 2012, he worked as a researcher in Ireland and the United States in the field of building energy efficiency. In 2010, he obtained a PhD in Civil Engineering from the National University of Ireland Galway (NUIG). In 2012, he founded R2M Solution, continuing his work in European research projects with a focus on the technology transfer of innovative solutions to the construction market. Since 2013, he has been appointed Adjunct Lecturer in Civil Engineering at the College of Engineering and Informatics at NUIG. From 2017 to 2022, he coordinated the technical working group on energy topics at the Green Building Council Italia, supporting the adoption of USGBC protocols and the development of local GBC protocols on these topics. Since 2018, he has also been collaborating as a contract lecturer at the Politecnico di Milano in master’s programs offered by the Pesenti School and the School of Architecture Urban Planning Construction Engineering. To date, he has overseen R2M’s contribution to more than 200 sustainability certifications (LEED, BREEAM, WELL, etc.) for buildings.
